From starting Monday with a Tai-Chi class at sunrise to exploring the future of AI, robotics, EVs, smart glasses, and exoskeletons across Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Shanghai one thing became very clear: China is not just innovating fast… it is deploying innovation at scale. Visiting Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen , Huawei , BYD ,Rokid Corporation Ltd , DEEP Robotics sometimes felt like traveling a few years into the future. Although, to be fair, after ordering a personalized AI-made latte yesterday, I’m still not entirely sure whether I visited China… or accidentally walked into 2035. ✨

👍🏻 From Shanghai to Mauritius, with a stop in Saint-Émilion in between, this week felt like a reminder of why I still love the road after all these years. Travel can be tiring, occasionally boring, and airports rarely get more glamorous with age… but more often than not, it stretches your perspective in ways nothing else can. The permit may now be in my hands, but the real adventure is still ahead. Britain gave us opportunities, lifelong friendships, our daughter Lucy, and countless lessons that will travel with us far beyond its shores. As we prepare to leave, this feels like the most unexpected farewell gift the UK could have given us. 👍🏻 We finally landed in Mauritius. Yet strangely, it still feels a little like a holiday. We’ve been here so many times that my brain hasn’t quite registered that this time, we’re staying. Lucy seems to have adapted faster than us: she found a friend, discovered padel, the beach… and apparently parents have already become optional. At least I’m no longer hearing “Why did we come here?” Our temporary penthouse on the beach, three minutes from Cocoon Bay, is making the transition pretty easy. 😁

Lucy started her new school, which meant uniforms, school supplies and all those little rituals that suddenly make a move very real. We also caught up with friends who moved here for a year with their three children. Different stories, same experiment: figuring out how to build a life somewhere new.

Site visits have become almost daily, suppliers are being finalised, the website is taking shape and we’re starting to recruit the local team who will actually run the place. There’s an interesting moment in every project when you stop thinking only about building it and start thinking about making it work. I think we’re there. 🏗️

👍🏻 Something unexpected happened twice this week. While having coffee near Lucy’s school, I was approached twice by people who recognised me from my LinkedIn posts. Both were entrepreneurs based in Mauritius. After years of writing online, it feels quite strange when the digital world suddenly turns into a real conversation over coffee. ☕️

👍🏻 We’re slowly finding our rhythm on the island. New faces seem to appear almost every day, and I’ve been surprised by how many people have reached out since we arrived. Some promising conversations, some probably less so… learning who to listen to is part of discovering a new ecosystem. Meanwhile, Sophie and Lucy’s residence permits are still somewhere in the system. Apparently even the “easy” applications require a little island patience. 🌴

👍🏻 Cocoon Bay is entering another phase. This week, Paul arrived in Mauritius to help us push the project through its final stretch. He worked with us on our real estate projects in Barcelona, so having someone who already knows the way we work makes a difference. We spent the first days walking through Cocoon Bay, room by room, looking at what needs to be improved, corrected or simply finished properly. There is still work ahead, but this is the beginning of the final push. At this stage, progress is no longer measured in walls going up. It is measured in details disappearing from the snagging list.

👍🏻 Sometimes the right person arrives at exactly the right time. Paul came over from Barcelona to spend a couple of weeks helping us through the final stretch at Cocoon Bay, just as I left Mauritius for a few days in Europe. He knows our way of working, knows how to get the right people around the table and, more importantly, knows how to get things finished. While I’m writing this between Paris and Geneva, it’s reassuring to know that someone I trust is on the ground pushing the details forward. 🏗️

After two weeks in Europe, catching up with LPs, co-investors and old friends in Geneva, Gstaad, Paris and London, it felt good to land back in Mauritius. I loved the break, the conversations and the energy. But I was equally happy to return to my new home. Funny how quickly somewhere new can start feeling like where you belong. 🇲🇺
